Paws and play take over TSC as DU holds first pet carnival

Wagging tails, curious whiskers and smiling faces filled the Dhaka University Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Tuesday afternoon (January 20, 2026) as the campus hosted its first-ever Pet Carnival, turning the iconic spot into a lively celebration of companion animals.

Organised by Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) with support from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the colourful event brought together pet lovers and their furry friends for an afternoon of fun, learning and awareness.

Dogs, cats and other pets stole the spotlight as they walked the ramp with their owners, posed for photos and played with visitors, creating a joyful atmosphere across the venue.

The carnival featured a vibrant pet ramp show, a food-loving cat competition, exhibitions and interactive stalls.

Several booths offered advice on pet healthcare, training and nutrition, while awareness sessions highlighted animal welfare, proper care and responsible pet ownership.

Organisers said the main goal of the event was to promote compassion towards animals and encourage young people to become responsible pet parents.

Students and visitors welcomed the initiative, calling it a refreshing and meaningful addition to campus life.
