BNP MPs-elect take oath as members of parliament
BNP MPs-elect have taken oath as only members of the 13th parliament, not as members of the Constitution Reform Council on Tuesday morning.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath at 10:43am in line with the Constitution as the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament are currently vacant.
Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Moula conducted the oath-taking ceremony at 10:43am at the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad.
Jamaat MPs-elect is scheduled to be sworn in at 12pm at the same place.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's wife, Zubaida Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Now the newly elected MPs signed the oath book and provide fingerprints, images and digital signatures for preparation of their digital identity cards following the ceremony.
The 13th parliamentary election and referendum on the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order 2025 were held on Thursday last (February 12) in 299 out of the country’s 300 constituencies amid festivity and peaceful atmosphere.
On Friday last, the EC published a gazette of 297 elected MP candidates. The election results of two other constituencies – Chattogram-2 and 4-- were withheld as per the court orders.
Besides, the election to Sherpur-3 was earlier cancelled following the death of a contesting candidate.
But, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman left Bogura-6 seat for by-election, taking oath as a member of parliament from Dhaka-17 constituency.
In the election, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured 209 parliamentary seats, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68.

Besides, National Citizen Party-NCP settled victory in six constituencies, independent candidates in seven constituencies, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish in two, Islami Andolan Bangladesh in one, Bangladesh Jatiya Party-BJP (led by Andaleeve Rahman Partho) in one, Ganaodhikar Parishad in one, Ganasamhati Andolan in one and Khelafat Majlish in one parliamentary seat.
So, the BNP-led electoral alliance sealed victory in a total of 212 constituencies, while the Jamaat-led electoral alliance won in 77 constituencies.

BNP MPs to submit their resignation to Speaker of Parliament today
All seven BNP Members of Parliament (MPs) will physically submit their resignation to speaker of Parliament on Sunday.
The BNP MPs will submit their resignation letters around 11am, according to BNP sources.

BNP’s international affairs secretary Rumeen Farhana announced the decision from the party’s Golapbagh rally on Saturday.
The MPs who resigned are: Md. Zahidur Rahman, Thakurgaon-3; Md. Mosharof Hosen, Bogura-4; Gulam Mohammad Siraj, Bogura-6; Md. Aminul Islam, Chapainawabganj-2; Md. Harunur Rashid, Chapainawabganj-3; Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, Brahmanbaria-2; and Rumeen Farhana, Women’s Reserved Seat.

BNP MPs likely to resign today
The Members of Parliament (MPs) of BNP are likely to resign on Saturday as per the decision of the party’s standing committee.
The party MPs have been asked to resign from parliament as the party will announced a 10-point demand including dissolution of parliament from the today’s rally, said a standing committee member of BNP wishing anonymity.
He said they took the decision at a meeting on Friday night.

BNP is holding it last rally from where the party will announce their demands for launching a simultaneous movement.
10-Point Demand to be announced
BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, from their rally, they will announce a 10-point demand.
“We have already discussed the points of the movement with those who are ready to wage a simultaneous movement with us. We hope they will simultaneously announce the 10 points – that we have formulated – from their respective positions,” he said.
Mosharraf hoped that all parties who reach an understanding with them to initiate a simultaneous movement will move forward and intensify the anti-government agitation.
A BNP standing committee member, wishing anonymity, said the party will also announce some new programmes like demonstrations, token-hunger strikes, human chains and sit-ins from the rally demanding the release of party’s leaders and activists and press for their 10-point demand.

He said their demands include the resignation of the government, dissolution of parliament, including the provision of the caretaker government in the constitution through an amendment, formation of a new Election Commission under the caretaker government, creating a level-playing field before the election, holding the election using ballot papers, releasing BNP
chairperson Khaleda Zia and all other political prisoners without any condition and revoking the Digital Security Act and other repressive laws, ensuring the freedom of expression and assembly and keeping all essential items within the buying capacity of people.
There are seven MPs of the party including one from the reserved women seat.
On October 29, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said MPs from his party are ready to resign from the current parliament as their main goal is to restore democracy by ousting the Awami League government.
