The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued traffic guidelines ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Members of Parliament (MP) and the newly formed cabinet, scheduled to be held on Tuesday. The swearing-in of the newly elected MPs will take place at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, while members of the new cabinet will take oath at the South Plaza of the parliament complex. A large gathering is expected in and around the Parliament area throughout the day, forcing the authorities to impose restrictions in some key points from 8am to 7pm. No fear as voting proceeds peacefully despite rumours: DMP Commissioner The DMP has requested all drivers to avoid Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road from 8:00am to 7:00pm on Feb 17 and to follow the diversion instruction to avoid traffic congestion. The vehicular movement will remain restricted from Khejur Bagan Crossing to Manik Mia Avenue and along Lake Road from July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum to Urojahaj Crossing during the event. To minimise temporary inconvenience caused by traffic control measures, DMP’s Traffic Division has arranged diversions to ensure smooth vehicular movement. Diversion points and alternative routes: Mirpur Road to Farmgate via Manik Mia Avenue: Vehicles coming from the northern parts via Mirpur Road towards Farmgate/Sonargaon will proceed through Defence Gap and proceed through China Friendship Conference Center–Urojahaj Crossing–Bijoy Sarani Crossing towards Farmgate. 26,515 police deployed in capital for election security: DMP Dhanmondi to Farmgate: Vehicles from Dhanmondi 27 will move via Asad Gate–Defence Gap, turn right towards the conference center–Urojahaj Crossing–Bijoy Sarani Crossing and then right towards Farmgate Crossing. Asad Gate to Farmgate Crossing: From Asad Gate, vehicles will turn left towards Ganabhaban Crossing (July Smriti Jadughar), proceed to Defence Gap, then turn right towards the conference center–Urojahaj Crossing–Bijoy Sarani Crossing and finally right towards Farmgate Crossing. Elevated Expressway/Indira Road to Dhanmondi: Vehicles coming from the Elevated Expressway or Indira Road will move via Khejur Bagan Crossing, turn right towards Urojahaj Crossing, then left towards the conference center, left again at Defence Gap and proceed via Asad Gate to Dhanmondi. Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi: As the blockade on Manik Mia Avenue will be lifted, southbound vehicles from Mirpur Road will travel via Shyamoli–Shishu Mela–Ganabhaban (July Uprising Memorial Museum)–Asad Gate towards Dhanmondi 27. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Monday said 37 polling centres in the capital have been identified as risky ahead of the national election. He disclosed the information at a press conference on the security plan taken by DMP on the occasion of the election at the DMP Media Centre. “Seven police personnel equipped with body cameras will be deployed at each of the 37 risky polling centres. These centres are mostly in remote areas with narrow roads, which is why additional police presence has been arranged,” he said. The commissioner said the city has 1,614 important polling stations and 517 general polling stations. Four police personnel will be deployed at each important station while three will be stationed at each general polling station, he said. Sajjat Ali added that all necessary preparations have been taken to ensure a peaceful election and prevent any untoward incidents. He also said 25,000 DMP members have received election-related training. The DMP’s Special Reserve Force, Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad will also remain deployed to handle any situation. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday launched special hotline numbers to receive complaints and information related to the 13th Parliamentary Election and the referendum. A total of 46 people were arrested in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Sunday under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 by different units of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The arrests were made during simultaneous drives conducted on Saturday in crime-prone areas under the jurisdictions of Jatrabari, Mugda, Rupnagar, Banani, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Bangshal police stations, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman on Sunday afternoon. 'Underworld' criminal Dilip alias Binash ordered the killing of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir over extortion and control in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area, detectives said on Saturday. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) Chief Shafikul Islam disclosed the information while briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Saturday morning. He said eight to nine extortion syndicates are currently operating at Karwan Bazar and the murder stemmed from rivalry over control of extortion earnings. Shafikul said the DB is working to dismantle the syndicates and will launch drives soon. Replying to a question, he said preliminary findings indicate that Dilip alias Binash is currently staying abroad. Musabbir, former general secretary of Swechchhasebak Dal’s Dhaka North City unit, was shot dead on January 7 in an alley beside Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue. His wife filed a murder case with Tejgaon Police Station the following day against four to five unidentified individuals. Earlier, on January 11, DB arrested Jinnat (24), Abdul Kadir (28), Md Riaz (31) and Md Bilal in connection with the killing. On Friday morning, another alleged shooter, Rahim, was arrested from Narsingdi, bringing the total number of arrests to five. Asked about the identities of the arrestees Shafikul Islam said they should be described as extortionists. “Extortionists have no political ideology and often misuse political identities or banners to carry out illegal activities.” he added. Responding to another query, he said police reviewed CCTV footage from the crime scene immediately after the incident and identified two shooters. One of them, Jinnat, was arrested earlier while the second shooter, Rahim, was arrested on Friday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will start taking action against drivers who honk in restricted areas around Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from January 25. The DMP issued a notice in this regard on Tuesday. According to the notice, the government declared certain areas around the airport including a 1.5-kilometre stretch from Scholastica School to Hotel La Meridien as well as Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and Niketan as silent zones in September 2025. Honking in these areas is a punishable offence and violators may face a fine of up to Tk 10,000 or three months in jail. Special mobile courts will operate under the supervision of the Department of Environment, BRTA, Civil Aviation Authority, Dhaka North City Corporation, and DMP magistrates to impose fines or custodial sentences on offenders. It also urged the drivers to comply with the Noise Pollution Control Rules 2025 and refrain from honking in the designated areas to maintain a peaceful environment around the airport. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 27 people during the last 24 hours till 8 am on Monday under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 from Bangshal, Kalabagan, Sher-e-Bangla, and Mugda police station areas in the capital. Among the arrestees, Bangshal and Kalabagan police stations each arrested four people, Sher-e-Bangla police station arrested three, while Mugda police station arrested 16 persons during separate drives in crime-prone areas, said DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman. Bangshal thana police carried out a day-long operation on Sunday and arrested four people. The arrestees are Md Mizanur Rahman, 30; Md Shahid Chan, 55; Ranjit Kumar Sutradhar; and Md Jakir Hossain. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all forms of public gatherings in key areas in the capital including near Bangladesh Secretariat and Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Adviser, effective from Monday. The restriction has been enforced under the Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976, citing the need to maintain public order and safety of the Chief Adviser, said a public notice issued by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali. According to the notice, all types of meetings, assemblies, processions, human chains, sit-ins, and similar activities are strictly prohibited in and around the Secretariat and Jamuna. Video messages of Hadi murder prime suspect being examined: DMP Commissioner The areas under the restriction included Hotel InterContinental Crossing, Kakrail Mosque crossing, Officers Club crossing and Mintoo Road crossing. The order will remain in force until further notice. The DMP commissioner urged people to cooperate to help maintain peace and security in the designated areas.

Indian police have arrested two people in Meghalaya for receiving prime suspect Faisla Karim Masud and his accomplice in the sensational murder of Sharif Osman bin Hadi from the Bangladesh border area of the state. The arrestees were identified as Putti and Sami. “Through informal communication with Meghalaya Police, we learned that Putti and Sami have already been arrested,” SN Md Nazrul Islam, additional commissioner (crime and operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), disclosed this at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday. In Haluaghat of Mymensingh district, the accused identified as Philip and Sanjay received Faisal and Alamgir and helped them cross into India’s Meghalaya state. They were later handed over to Putti, who passed them to taxi driver Sami, who took them to Tura town, he said, adding that they unearthed how and who helped the accused flee to India. Law enforcement agencies, including DMP, Detective Branch (DB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) began working jointly to identify and arrest those involved following the ‘heinous’ incident, Nazrul said. Using information from witnesses present at the scene, CCTV footage analysis, open-source intelligence and information technology, police identified the shooter as Faisal, alias Rahul, and his accomplice, motorcycle rider Md Alamgir Sheikh, on the day of the incident. Hadi Murder: Charge sheet likely within 10 days The law enforcers immediately conducted raids in Savar, Hemayetpur, Agargaon and Narsingdi to arrest the suspects. As part of the continued operation, a DMP team pursued the suspects up to the border areas of Haluaghat in Mymensingh. Nazrul said efforts are ongoing to bring all those involved to justice. The case has already been handed over to the DMP DB for intensive investigation. The charge sheet of the case will be submitted within the next seven to eight. “So far, we have arrested 11 people, including the two main masterminds involved in planning the incident, those who helped hide the weapons used, and individuals who assisted the accused in fleeing,” he said. The arrestees include Humayun Kabir, father of Faisal; Hasi Begum, his mother; Shahida Parvin Samia, his wife; Wahid Ahmed Shipu, his brother-in-law; Maria Akter Lima, his friend; Mohammad Kabir Nuruzzaman Nomaniya alias Ujjwal; Sibion Dio Sanjay Chisi; Md Aminul Islam Raju; and Abdul Mannan. Meanwhile, six of the arrestees have made confessional statements before the court, he said. Police recovered two foreign-made pistols used in the killing, 52 rounds of ammunition, magazines, the motorcycle used in the crime along with a fake number plate, the autorickshaw that was carrying Hadi at the time of the incident, spent bullet casings, CCTV footage and other evidence. Besides, he said, investigators also seized signed cheques worth Tk 218 crore linked to 53 bank accounts. Charge sheet in Hadi murder case by Jan 7: DMP chief According to the investigation, Faisal and Alamgir fled Dhaka immediately after the incident, first travelling by CNG-run autorickshaw to Aminbazar, then to Kalampur in Manikganj, before reaching Haluaghat by private car as per a pre-planned route. Nazrul said the killing was premeditated, enabling the suspects to cross the border before they could be intercepted. On December 12, assailants shot Hadi in the head during an election campaign event. After receiving initial treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital, he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced medical care on December 15. Hadi died there on December 18 at around 9:45 pm (local time). The following day, his body was brought back from Singapore and his namaz-e-janaza was held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with thousands of people in attendance. A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with the killing.

Police expect to submit a charge sheet within the next seven to ten days in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho. “We will be able to submit the charge sheet within the next seven to ten days, Insha’Allah,” said Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) SN Nazrul Islam at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday morning. Nazrul Islam said the government has already announced that the case will be tried under the Speedy Trial Tribunal. “We are working towards that goal, and maximum efforts from both the state and law enforcement agencies are underway to ensure justice for this heinous incident,” he added. On December 12, assailants shot Hadi in the head during an election campaign event in the capital’s Purana Paltan area. After receiving initial treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital, he was flown to Singapore for advanced medical care on December 15. Protests continue over justice for Hadi Hadi died there on December 18 at around 9:45 pm (local time). A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with the killing. Meanwhile, police have arrested the parents of Faisal, the prime suspect and identified shooter. However, Faisal and one of his accomplices remain at large and are believed to have fled to India.
